As the cold approach of winter suddenly creeps in, we begin to move towards warmer moments and vices. All I want to do is curl up in bed (or next to a fireplace if you have one) with a cozy blanket, a hot drink, and a good book. Soon I will get a two week break where I plan on reading as much as I can so I am currently cultivating a reading list of 5 of my “I’ll read this one day” books! With more holidays coming our way, I am choosing from my mental health and self help collection! If you are in need of some mental stimulation and inspiration, you came to the right place! I will warn that the majority of my books come from Hay House Publishing! In fact 3 of the 5 books are published by them!

The Book of Light by Nia the Light
I found this book by chance on the Hay House website! Initially I had no clue who the author was until I looked her up and realized that I had been following her on social media for years but not as an author, but as a curly hair model! Sis has amazing curls so once I realized it was her and saw that she has been making boss moves by opening up her own curl bar in London where she encourages natural hair and self-love!
After reading several summaries on this book, I can’t wait to read it! It is like a guided journal that helps the reader with self-discovery! There is beautiful imagery where women from all walks of life can see their own reflection in. There’s talk about positive body image, self-care, stories from women, and how to choose you first! As a mother and wife, I rarely choose me first so this book is needed and recommended!

Purpose by Jessica Huie
Another Hay House find! I truly believe that part of the reason for being alive is to find your purpose. That is not always an easy task. Some people just know what their purpose is while others search their entire lives trying to find it. The book Purpose is written to help you do the deep digging to figure it out. Author Jessica Huie is the perfect example of what happens when you follow your heart and live your passion. She has been deemed as one of Britain’s Most Inspiring Entrepreneurs for her multicultural greeting card company. After writing this book, she devoted her career to helping purpose-driven business leaders, public speaking, book writing, an annual retreat she hosts in Jamaica, and two developmental programs!

Queenology by R.C. Blakes, JR.
I learned about this book through word of mouth. From young ages we are captivated with wanting to be a royal. I’ve wanted to be a princess for years but at some point, we need to change our tiara into a crown and act like queens. If we don’t move like queens do, then we will never be treated like queens. A pastor, preacher, empowerment speaker, author, father, and husband wrote this book to declare that every woman is a queen and in spite of her broken history, royalty is her destiny. Inspired by his own wife, he discusses how queens are financially savvy, maximize their potential, eliminate insecurity and negativity. Queens possess presence and only hear kings. “Queenology is a manual for the modern queen. It is for the woman who is ready to fix her crown, take her throne and expand her empire.” Are you ready to trade your tiara in for new and improved crown?

Imperfect Courage by Jessica Honegger
Confession, I have already read this book but will absolutely read it again! I found this book, read it, found the corresponding podcast called Going Scared by Jessica Honegger, and then learned that she is the founder of the socially conscious fashion brand Noonday. I actually did trade shows for Noonday for a while because I loved the work they do and believe in her purpose. This book was the gas to my fire for wanting to positively impact women’s lives and build sisterhoods. Jessica tells about going from selling her grandmother’s jewelry for profit at a friend’s house to running an entire business that supports hundreds of women and business owners in making handmade goods so they can eat, buy homes, and send their kids to school. These women come from all over the world and have created sisterhoods within their own communities. They all have amazing stories to tell and inspire the reader to go scared. Going Scared is that feeling of being afraid to take a leap and doing it anyway! Maybe you want to start that business but are too afraid of all the things that may or may not happen. We will never know if we don’t try so I am encouraging you to take the first leap and read this book!

The Sacred Bombshell Handbook of Self-Love by Abiola Abrams
You guessed it! A Hay House find! I already owned Abiola’s African Goddess Initiation book and the African Goddess Rising oracle deck! I love her book and the imagery of the cards are beautiful! Naturally when looking for more of her work, I came across her “Best Self Help Winning” book The Sacred Bombshell Handbook of Self-Love! “Abiola reveals 11 self-worth secrets with assignments to awaken your feminine energy, reclaiming the word bombshell to mean a woman who deliciously embodies her mind, body, spirit – and joy.” The book is more like a handbook or guide with life lessons, tools, healing modalities, and exercises to help you tune into your own feminine power and excel! Abiola is a Love-Body-Spirit coach, advice columnist, and motivational speaker.

I would really love to know if you have read these or have any other books to suggest! I can’t wait to read through these and make some positive changes. With holidays coming up, this will be my peace of mind while my daughter and niece are running around cackling all day. I am hoping that them seeing me read will promote some reading with them rather than watching Til Tok videos all day! Even though they are not yet queens, it’s never to early for them to start training in Queenology, self-love, and sisterhood! May you reign over the holidays and conquer these books!
