My grandfather always use to tell me to take care of my skin when I was younger and my mom didn’t let me were makeup until I went off to college. At the time, I thought she was just being strict but years later I am so glad that she was because as a result, my skin is in pretty good shape for my age. At 36, I now know the importance of having a skin care routine and staying hydrated. Moving back and forth between two climates of “cold and dry Colorado” and “hot and humid North Carolina”, I need a routine that works for both!
The first thing I do to start my routine in the morning is spritz my face with Heritage Store’s Rosewater. It instantly wakes up my face and gives me much need hydration. It also smells really good and feels natural.
The next thing I apply is Hyrda Vizor by Miss Rihanna Fenty’s Fenty Beauty! I absolutely love this moisturizer. It also contains broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen with Niacinamide and Kalahari Melon. It feels light on my skin and last all day. I can layer other makeup on top of it, however if you have oily skin, I don’t recommend it.
I then apply a little foundation under my eyes. I am no expert on foundations, concealers, and blending but I use what works for me. I apply Wet n Wild’s Photo focus foundation in Dewy. If you don’t like the dewy look, they offer matte as well. I picked Desert Beige to match my skin tone and I use the wand in the top to add the foundation where I want it. I then use a blending sponge to work under my eyes from the inside towards the outer eye.
Next I add my eyeshadow. Most days it’s one of two shadows. On days I just want a little shine, I will use E.L.F.’s jelly shadow (not sure if this is a seasonal item or discontinued) and days I want a little color or glitter, I use their Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow! These are my favorite because they go on so easy and the soft wand tip gives me more control of where I want to add it. My go-to shade is Flirty-Birdy!
Then I will add my tried and true mascara from Maybelline. Waterproof Great Lash in Very Black has been a staple for me since I was in high school! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
If you’re a brow girl, then I would say focus on this next. I am not really a brow girl but I do like to alternate between a serum and a clear pomade. E.L.F. makes a product called Brow Lift and it’s a thick clear gel that allows you to brush your brows and shape them with a brow brush. I wear my hair down a lot and often my eyebrow hairs will move out of place but not with this stuff! It has a waxy feel and a little goes a long way. It also adds shine and doesn’t leave your brows looking white or flaky. The other product I tried and like is the Boost Me Up Brow and Lash Serum by Wet n Wild. There’s a little brush at the tip to add the serum to the brows and a eye brow brush to help shape and do the lashes. It dries fast and doesn’t dry white or flaky. I feel like I see a difference in my brows when I use it consistently.
The last touch for me is a lip. I am a lip gloss girl through and through. I don’t like the way lipstick dries out my lips and I also hate sticky lipgloss. I like being able to move my lips if I rub them together and I like a tint of color. No one has mastered this like NYX’s Butter gloss! I have several shades in this gloss and use it everyday! Generally I use any mauve looking shades or any brown shades! My favorite pictured below is Praline! I highly recommend the clear for a natural look or use on top of your lip pencil or lipstick to amplify!
Once the day is done and it’s time to wash my face, I use Fenty Beauty’s Total Cleans’r Make-up Remover. It gets all the makeup off and doesn’t make my face feel dried out after.
I’m currently looking for a good eye cream for over night to help with dark circles but I’m sure plenty of water and the appropriate amount of sleep will help eliminate some of the issues. After starting my skin care routine for my face, Elise has been interested in starting her own. I found a skincare collection that works well for kids and and an oral hygiene routine that we are test driving! We will be sure to post her routine as well!
