We spend a lot of time talking about mental health and the effects of anxiety and depression but we don’t often talk about the actual chemistry of the brain. When our brain is low in certain chemicals or hormones, it stimulates others like cortisol and epinephrine. This is known as a chemical imbalance. A chemical imbalance is when the brain has too many or too few neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are natural chemicals that help the nerve cells to communicate with each other. How do you know if you have an imbalance? Signs of imbalance include:
- feelings of sadness, helplessness, worthlessness, or emptiness.
- overeating or a loss of appetite.
- insomnia or sleeping too much.
- restlessness.
- irritability.
- a feeling of impending doom or danger.
- lack of energy.
So how can we rebalance these imbalances? We learn the four main things that promote happiness and balance in the brain and DOSE ourselves! When we say dose, we don’t mean a medicine or a drug. We mean it as an acronym! This is an easy way to remember what the four things are!
What’s to come?
In continuing with our efforts in supplying you with what matters to us, we really wanted to dedicate March to bettering our mental mindset. Spring is coming and that means new beginnings and growth so why not focus on growth of the mind? Each week we are going to share a DOSE focus and somethings you can eat or do to help improve your mental state! At the end of the month, there will be a downloadable file for a cheat sheet that you can print out and have on hand! There will also be some tools and resources that can help with these things!
So let’s get our March Mentality on!
Love the Tribe!
